Community & Public Relations

Letter from the President

Hello Huntingtown Hurricane Families & Sports Fans!

Welcome to the Athletic Booster Club and its program of support for all of the exciting and competitive athletic activities and games at Huntingtown High School! We are a school and community rich in both academic and athletic traditions, with a high level of school spirit and involvement.

The Athletic Boosters would like to extend a welcome to all HHS students, parents and families.

The HHS Athletic Booster Club is a volunteer group of interested adults, which supports all athletic related activities within an environment that promotes leadership, team spirit, and sportsmanship, both in the classroom and at athletic events. We do this by providing financial support to athletic teams that cannot be provided through normal school channels. Support is provided to the school for all eligible groups on an equitable basis, including all girls and boys teams, J.V. and Varsity alike.

Freshman & Sophomore Families: We look forward to new members and new projects this year. We will be asking for your help and support throughout the year during our fundraising activities, but a significant portion of our funds comes from Booster Club memberships. The more funds generated through memberships the less additional fundraising is needed. Our goal is 100% membership and representation of all our athletes and their families in the Booster Club. Consider joining and supporting your children and all our athletes at HHS as a Booster Club member. A family membership is only $10. Individual, family, lifetime and corporate memberships are available.

Parental involvement is the key to establishing a tradition of successful support provided by the Booster Club. In the past three years with strong parent and community support, we have been fortunate to assist Huntingtown High School physically and financially, contributing around $90,000, and we thank all those individuals who have donated their time, talent, and resources for our school.

The HHS Booster Club is a good way to get involved with the HHS students, staff, and parents. Boosters are fun raisers, not just fund raisers. Our "fun" comes from the boosting and support and social activities.

We hope you will become an active member of the Boosters and will share in the support we offer to the athletics program at Huntingtown High School. Become a member, and you will be in the "loop" of what is going on! Check out our web page, get on our e-mail list for updates, be part of the action by volunteering to help out. You'll be pleasantly surprised at what you will learn about the goings-on at HHS.

If your child is involved in athletics, you should become a member!

Our meetings are the second Monday of every month at 7:00 p.m. at Huntingtown High School Media Center and last around one hour. If you wish further information or applications, visit our web site at http://hhsathleticboosterclub.blogspot.com/.

We are proud to present a list of accomplishments our Athletic Booster Club has achieved in the past four years for our school, our athletes and our community:

  • Wireless scoreboard for gymnasium
  • Wrestling Mat
  • Wrestling Mat mover
  • Track Stand
  • Cheerleading Mat

  • Scholarship Program recognizing outstanding graduating senior athletes with$500 scholarships
  • Construction of Stadium style lockers in our outdoor Fieldhouse, plus stools and equipment
  • Purchased items commemorating our Regional and State Championships.
  • Refreshments and concessions at games for all seasons.
Everyone can be a Booster. Booster is simply an enthusiastic supporter of HHS sports programs. This support can be manifested in many ways -- by becoming a member of our Booster committees, by volunteering to work during sports events, by being a team parent or representative, through financial support, or by simply attending sports events to support our athletes. Please consider volunteering for any of our Booster Club activities, for concessions staff, for Fund raising activities throughout the year.

Thank you for your support.

Athletic Booster Club Team Representatives

In order to help execute our mission, HHSABC identifies team representatives from parents of all athletic teams (at all levels) to represent their player’s team to the ABC. These volunteers are vital to our success and integral to the success of our partnership with the HHS sport teams. Each Team Rep is not personally for each of these duties, but they are accountable to make sure that someone does them. This cooperation and coordination will enable the HHSABC to provide consistent support and coverage to all of our HHS sport teams, student-athletes and coaches.

Team Representative Duties:

  • Regularly attend HHS ABC monthly meetings to represent your HHS sports team. This team representative must be a voting HHSABC member in good standing.
  • Canvas sport team parents to solicit membership – actively recruit team parents to join the HHSABC.
  • Volunteers for activities – actively participate in the “Call for Volunteers”, when requested.
  • Coordinate team overall ABC fund-raising activities.
  • Coordinate concessions/snack bar coverage and prepare schedules for applicable sports – Team reps might have to schedule the workers and make sure they show up.
  • Act as an information conduit from HHSABC to their team parents – whenever information is available that needs to get out.
  • Represent the particular needs of their respective sport to the HHS ABC.
  • Maintain an updated comprehensive parent’s distribution mailing (e-Mail) list for the complete team sports program, as well as individual teams lists (including Varsity, JV & Freshman).
  • Act as an ambassador for our sports program in general and specifically for the HHS Athletic Booster Club.
  • Conduct succession planning for team representative(s). (A representative’s new term begins after the sports season ends, example - football is played in the Fall, so if the rep has a senior player, that rep needs to recruit a new representative to start in the winter.
  • Provide the HHS ABC with a list of all team members and pictures for the Sports Award Night program.
  • Provide news stories and photographs of their teams to be posted on the HHS ABC web site and for inclusion in periodic newsletters.
  • Assist in the coordination and planning of individual team “Senior Night”.
